Green Smoothie

I have looked a long time at smoothie recipes and after watching the Vitamix man – very interested in GREEN smoothies.  Who else wouldn’t want to eat something incredibly healthy and not even realize it is spinach they are eating?  I love this recipe.  I have made with different ingredients in different quantities and if you want a true green smoothie that actually tastes good too, here it is!!  I have tried frozen strawberry/orange ones, frozen cherry chocolate ones, etc. and this one is still my favorite.  Even my 10 month old drinks this.  I love hiding any kind of nutrition into a child’s meal when I can.

If you like your smoothie really cold, add the ice.   If it is just me drinking it, I pour out 1 cup of the smoothie into a tupperware container to put in the fridge then add half the ice into the blender with the remaining 1 cup of smoothie to make it colder.

Green Smoothie
yields 2 servings
adapted from Allrecipes.com

1 cups water or almond milk
3/4 cup vanilla yogurt (or plain yogurt mixed with 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract)
1 cup green grapes
1/2 of a Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped
2 Tbs. ground flaxseed (optional, but I like to get my Omega 3 where I can)
1/2 of a banana
1 1/2-2 cups of fresh spinach leaves (2 small handfuls, or pile to the top of your blender for even more spinach)

Blend all of this in your blender.  Once smooth, add 6-8 ice cubes and blend until smooth.

  1. Just made this…it was good! I added some unsweetened almond milk because I wanted it a bit thinner…but all in all, yum!
