Sweet Onion Dressing

This is one of my two favorite dressings (other is O’Charley’s Balsamic Vinegrette).  My friend Jackie served this and I just had to have the recipe because I’m not too keen on most dressings.  It is soooo easy and delicious – even yummy enough to drink out of glass!  Jackie did that – I didn’t 🙂

Thank you Jackie for sharing the recipe!

Sweet Onion Dressing
yield about 1.5 cups

1/2 cup sweet onion, chopped
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. dry mustard   (I really hate mustard, but you really can’t taste it.)
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 cup canola oil

Add onion, sugar, mustard and vinegar to a blender and blend.  While running, drizzle the oil.  Keeps for quite a while!  I’ve had mine sealed in the fridge and used it for 3-4 months or so.  Probably against some FDA regulation… but there you have it and I didn’t die.

  1. Yummy!!! I’ve had to stop using it for the last 6 weeks during my biggest loser competition at the gym…can’t wait to have it again!

    1. What? You don’t need to lose anything! You look great!
I want to try the salad that goes with it too someday. Due to the price of bacon, I’ve quit buying it. And I heard on the news that bacon and sausage are connected to a sharp increase in pancreatic cancer in men.

  2. I know…but I wanted to have something MAKE me stick with the working out and eating better so I can get into better habits. I’ve actually lost almost 6 lbs. in the last 6 weeks. I have a few “fat cells” left to work on 😉 But really, I’m just trying to be healthier for myself and the kids so they don’t grow up like I did thinking working out is not fun and eating healthy is gross. You can take out anything you want in the salad…I usually don’t make it with the bacon because I’m too lazy to cook it up…so I’ll have the chicken, craisins and cheese. The cheese really “makes” it I think. Although I did make this for a Super Bowl party and I bought really thick bacon and cooked it up…it was quite tasty with the dressing.
