Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Good morning!

This summer has been pretty fun now that the kids are older.  We went to Yellowstone National Park for 8 days (2 of them travel) and saw more buffalo than we ever will in a lifetime!

We also visited BrickUniverse  – a national Lego travel show.  I didn’t realize it wasn’t really an official Lego conference I don’t think.  Well they had fun at least and the artwork as inspiring! Finally, I ran a STEM camp at church for 5 days and kids explored kitchen science and electrical engineering activities.  Which reminds me I need to send those volunteers thank you notes!

Here is my quick and easy recipe for vanilla ice cream.

I recommend real vanilla extract since it is the star of the show and real heavy cream.  When there are only so few ingredients, you can really tell.  This recipe contains no eggs, so that is why it is so fast.  Now, I have made ones with eggs and though they take longer to make…. they seem to do well sitting in the freezer.  This one without eggs is still delicious in the freezer, but I think it tasted the best the day it is made.

So I whipped this up during dinner and ran the machine while we ate.  In 25 minutes, it was done churning and we were ready to eat!

I have the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker.  (No affiliate links because we live in Missouri!)  The machine has lasted at least 10 years or more and I don’t even use it all the time.  It goes in storage until I realize 2 years later I want some homemade ice cream.  The extra bowl is nice because it takes 24-48 hours to freeze the bowl solid, so if you want to make more than one batch you have that option.   I just keep a freezer bowl covered in a shopping bag in the freezer all of the time.  That way it is always ready to go.

Don’t want boring vanilla?  Add toppings!  Instructions are included in the recipe.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Simple, quick and delicious vanilla ice cream
Servings 10 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup whole milk (2% will work too)
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup sugar

Instructions

  • In a great big bowl, whisk together the ingredients!
Follow your ice cream maker's instructions and churn for 25 minutes. Boom ice cream is done! The kids called it "fluff ice cream" because it is so fluffy. My cuisinart has you turn the machine on, pour the mixture while it is moving and then I set the timer for 25 minutes.
If you do not own an ice cream maker, you could also pour it into a shallow pan and stir every 15 minutes of so. This will incorporate air into the ice cream.
**If you want to add crushed oreos, chopped chocolate, or any mix ins then add those the last 5 minutes of churning.**
