This was probably the very first Pioneer Woman recipe I ever made. Though I believe it has been around in church potlucks for about 15 years or however long Pillsbury has been churning out crescent dough. 🙂 I can’t believe I never posted it before, but I made this way back in 2008 when I first started reading her blog. I stopped reading it about 2-3 years ago when it became more commercial and you could tell other writers were writing the posts.
This recipe is quick, easy and delicious. The original recipe that is floating around adds 1/2 can of Mountain Dew. I don’t like that soda and I’m sure it would taste great with it, but I leave it out and accompany this dish served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
yield 16 servings
2 tubes of crescent rolls (total of 16 rolls)
2 granny smith apples, peeled and cut into 8 slices each apple
2 sticks of butter
1 and 1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1. Preheat the oven for 350 degrees. (Remember when using a glass pan to reduce the temperature 25 degrees! I forgot once and it didn’t turn out as well.)
2. Grease a 9×13 pan with butter or layer with non-stick foil.
3. Wrap each slice of apple in a crescent roll. Layer in the pan.
4. In the microwave or on the stovetop, melt the butter. Stir in the sugar and vanilla. Pour that all over the dumplings.
5. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top and bake about 35-40 minutes.
