Breakfast Drinks Fruit Healthy Lemon spinach Strawberry

Berry Lemonade

This is the recipe I make any time I have a cold or the kids are getting sick.  Generally, this happens a couple of times per year — once at the beginning of the school year and another time late winter.

I drank this once a day for 3 days and just had a little sinus headache instead of a full-blown runny nose, cough, etc.  You know how it goes.

Need to get some fruits and vegetables in your diet?  This drink is also great for that!  Since the base is water, there are few calories and tons of vitamins as well as antioxidants.

Ingredients

Lemon Flavor:  For most of my berry smoothies, smoothie bowls, creamis, and ice creams, I add TruLemon crystallized lemons.  Or Crystallized Lemon packets.  Then, I add sweetener.  Just because we go through soooo much lemon.  But!  You can also use Crystal Light which has the sweetener already included.  Or TruLemon Lemonade.  I don’t make any money from them — I just really like their products and using natural flavor.

Spinach:  I always try and grab a bag or two of spinach at the stores.  I stopped using pre-frozen spinach from the freezer case because it was hard to use.  Instead I buy the fresh spinach and throw it into the freezer.  Or I grab a large Costco size bag of spinach and split it into smaller freezer bags!
Try adding a handful to all of your smoothies this month of March for a fun touch of green!  It makes some fun colors like HERE and HERE.

Berries:  My ultimate favorite berry blend is “Triple Berry Blend” from Costco.  Any berry blend will work of course!  I try and microwave the big berries first so that they don’t hurt the blender.  Triple berry blend is my favorite because the other berry blends in the freezer case usually use strawberries for fillers.  I love love love strawberries.  They are my favorite food in the world.  However, I don’t think they make for a flavorful drink in my opinion.  So that’s why I like the blackberry/blueberry/raspberry mixture.

Protein?:   If you wanted to, you could add a scoop of vanilla ice cream protein powder to this.  It tastes really good!  I’ve tried that several times.
