Angry Birds Party Ideas

There are a few helpful website in regards to creating an Angry Birds party for children on the web.  Here are some helpful things I found along the way.  I did not do the game “pin the bird on the piggie” and make a big poster.  It is a cute game, but we did something similar last year.  I also wanted to do “find the golden eggs”, but again we found dinosaur eggs last year.

**Update 8/10/12** **Update** Honey Maid is now making Angry Bird Graham Crackers!!!  I wish these had been around last year for our party.  What a cool treat?!  Dip them in cheesecake dip or just eat them alone.  I saw them at Schnucks (local St. Louis grocery chain), so they may be at the bigger stores now.

Here is the invitation I created below.  It was made in Photoshop.  I could not add the link to the Photoshop document or I would have provided it for free for you.  I will have to work on that.  So, for now here is some inspiration.    The font is “Chicken Butt” from dafont.com and you may need to download it in order to match what I have in the document.

I created the balloons here on the fireplace mantel using the template from The Party Animal.  Only blue bird is missing and that is because I had one balloon and it literally blew up in my face.  The best balloon collection I found was at Target.  They carried the black, white, red and yellow balloons all in one bag.  Walmart’s balloon mix leaves out black and white.  You have to buy those separately and in bulk, at least at our store.

To make the live “Angry Birds” game, I took some large, plain boxes from Costco and then drew woodgrain on the sides with a black magic marker.  Stack the boxes and you have your own piggy area.

To make the “pigs” and “bird” for the Angry Birds game, I used black, yellow, and brown and orange permanent markers to draw their faces.  Some people have successfully made the eyes white using white acrylic and a sealer.   But they still look cute and the kids don’t notice.  They were having too much fun.  The balls were found at Walmart.  I couldn’t find any at Target with the bright solid colors.

To make the banner, I tried to find a font that looked like the Angry Birds font.  I really didn’t find one I thought matched, but this one was close.  I downloaded it from dafont.com and it is called “chicken butt.”  Yes that is right.  I didn’t make it up, I promise.  You can download the MS Word document Birthday banner to print it out.  To make your own, simply open a Word Document; switch to Landscape; use 600 or 650 point font to create the letters; cut out the letters; tape them to a piece of yarn and hang with some tape.

To make the pinata, I bought a blow up punch ball from Target.  Then covered it in two layers of paper mache.  After it was completely dry, I painted it green with Washable Crayola paint.  A whole box at Michael’s cost $3.50 which a half off coupon.  After the green dried, I used the Party Animal Templates for the piggies and taped that on.  I actually prefer this pinata to ones we have purchased in the past.  At several parties, including our own, the small children can never break the pinata and it gets frustrating.  Eventually an adult has to help.  Two layers was good for our group of kids mostly around age 5.  Kids age 7-8, I would recommend about 3 layers.  The paper mache glue mixture I use is 1 cup flour to 1 cup water.  This required about 3 cups of flour and 3 cups of water – about the consistency of pancake batter.

To decorate the table, I used the plush birds and piggies that we already had.  The birds on the left surrounding a “nest” which is a grapevine wreath.  The pigs on the right are in front of my small skillet with their eggs which I hardboiled the previous day.  (To hardboil eggs, cover the eggs in a pot of water and an 1 inch more of water above the eggs.  Bring water and eggs to a full boil.  Cover pot and remove from heat.  For large eggs, let stand for 15 minutes.  For extra large eggs, let stand 18 minutes.  Drain water and then cool eggs with running cold water.  Cool eggs then store in the fridge.)

For appetizers, I made Pigs in a blanket and called them “angry piggies.”  These were a hit.  I didn’t want to add more sugary snacks/treats like gummy worms.  To make them, preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  Cut 8 hot dogs in half.  Cut 8 crescent rolls in half, longways.  Wrap the roll around the hot dog and bake for 10-12 minutes or until slightly golden brown.

As another game, we played piggie bowling.  I took 12 water bottles and removed their labels.  Then I took a Jpeg image I found on the web and printed it out 12 times.  Next, I cut out the piggies and taped them to the water bottles.  We used the blue birdie ball to “bowl” the piggies down.  Here is the link where I found the image of the piggie.

Another game I created with the small characters from Angry Birds is the game below.  Simply get some plastic cups and stack them.  Place piggies on top and go!  The small characters I used on the birthday cake and found here at Amazon.  The price jumped around from $11 to $19.
